XXII Reno Rib Cook-Off ~ We Came, We Drooled, We Consumed!

As the anticipation grew, so did the tummy growls…
First, all I had with me was my cellphone, so these are definitely not my best photos…and for that I apologize. Now back to the story at hand…

Here in the Reno & Sparks area the Labor Day weekend means one thing: R-I-B-S

And not just any run of the mill ribs, oh no, we’re talking about a flat out smoker showdown. This weekend, 24 competitors lined the Victorian Square to take part in an invitation only battle for the best ribs. John Ascuaga’s Nugget hosts this premier rib competition every year…and for rib, BBQ, brisket and pulled pork lovers it’s an event not to be missed. Seriously…DON’T MISS IT!

Cars & Poodle Skirts ~ Hot August Nights In Reno, NV

If you love classic cars...the paint jobs, the roar of the engines, that shiny chrome ... then you'll absolutely be in heaven during one of Reno's largest festivals. Hot August Nights is in full swing right now throughout downtown Reno. Almost everywhere you look right now there is a gorgeous vehicle cruising the streets. All that's missing is a row of neon diners.

This is one of the best festivals every year! Cars, cars cars!!! We headed over to the Atlantis Casino Resort & Spa for our first official viewing of these beauties. Let me just say, I thought that Charming was going to need a bucket to catch all of that drool. Especially when he saw the beauty above. Then again, almost all of the cars went on his wish list. It was almost like walking through a car lover's dreamland. Rows of some of the most gorgeous cars I've ever seen. And there's still tons that I have to go check-out at other casinos before the festival is over. (Schedule of events is listed below)

Breakfast Review ~ Squeeze In, Reno, NV

$-$$$ *****
If you are a Food Network junkie like I am, then chances are that you caught the Throwdown With Bobby Flay...the challenge Omelettes! I was pleasantly surprised to find that this Throwdown took place right in my own backyard...Reno, NV. And the target...the Squeeze In.

The Squeeze In? I had never heard of it before. How was that possible after living in Reno for a year, asking everyone where the best food spots were, could we have missed a golden nugget like Squeeze In?! Were people deliberately holding back that information? Did they want to assure that lines and wait times would not grow?

Spring Has Finally Sprung

This year has been filled with changes...and I've learned that unlike Southern California, you can't expect Spring to come in a timely manner in the Reno/Tahoe area. There have been a barrage of weather systems hitting the area...even up to this past weekend...dumping rain and snow in the mountains and valley floor.
How can anyone plan for planting any gardens or picnics for that matter? I've been dying to plant my little herb garden again, but I know that if I don't wait until May then the chances of freezing nights destroying my herbs runs very high. And this is extremely frusterating for a So. Cali girl who's been transplanted in Reno. Very frusterating indeed.

Now to me, Spring means flowers, gardens, butterflies, sunny afternoon picnics, that "fresh" smell that only Spring can bring...Being born on May 1st gives me an extra love for Spring I think. Perhaps by my birthday this little miniture rose bush will be in full bloom...

ATTENTION ALL SKIERS: The Sierra Snow Is Calling!

DEALS DEALS DEALS
If you have missed the amazing snow that the Reno/Tahoe area has received this season...you better get into your car, plane, train or jet as quickly as you can. If you're able to, teleporting would be highly recommended.

The ski conditions have been fabulous for the Sierra ski resorts this Winter and so far the Spring skiing hasn't been anything to sneeze at either. This past weekend the Sierras received a nice 2-3 foot unloading of snow from the clouds as they passed through. It left me wondering when Spring was actually going to be allowed to show itself. Well, Spring will have to wait...
